Recently UK government Home Office has introduced Graduate Immigration Route for international students on 11 September, 2019. While in Graduate Immigration Route, students are allowed to live and work while study in UK for 2 years after graduation. Student who enrolled for undergraduate program or higher level in approved UK higher education provider (HEP) are eligible for this scheme. Graduate Immigration Route will be in effect from academic year 2020/2021 and students who will graduate after Summer 2021 will be eligible to apply. International students are excited and welcomed such announcement from UK government. However, this isn’t completely new scheme for international students. In 2012, Theresa May, home secretary at that time, dismissed such facility for international students and granted only 4 months to stay in the UK after graduation. Current prime minister Boris Johnson and his government seems to be very optimistic regarding the reputation of British education and re-introduced 2 years graduate immigration route in order to attract brightest students from all over the world. Students are allowed to work in any skill level while in Graduate Immigration Route and also able to switch into skill work visa as long as they meet eligibility criteria.

International students are allowed to work 20 hours per week and full time during the vacation at study time in the UK. If your spouse wish to join you then your spouse can apply for TIER 4 – Dependent visa. Dependent case is only allowed for post graduate or higher level applicant. Your dependent can work full time in the UK except professional sportsperson, which includes a sports coach and they cannot work as a doctor or dentist in training unless they have a degree in medicine or dentistry from a UK institution or have previously been granted a visa to study in UK that did not restrict their employment as a doctor or dentist in training and were employed as such during that period.

UK consists of four countries; England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The record of Home Office shows 1153 education institutions are registered as TIER 4 Sponsor. International students should be very attentive while making a choice of right institution. Average tuition fee, academic reputation, graduate employability rate, scholarship, major option & campus location could be most prioritized factors that student should consider while choosing right university. Most of the universities in the UK have average annual tuition fee of GBP 12000 and potential students can grant scholarship up to 50%. The announcement of 2 years Graduate Immigration Route by UK government has drawn huge attention of international students. On contrary, Australian government has decreased assessment level of Nepal from 2 to 3. Therefore, it is quite obvious to predict that UK could be the next popular destination for Nepalese students for their higher education.
